My Favorite Recovery Tool

Every runner should have “recovery” tools. Common recovery tools include foam rollers, massage sticks, massage balls, ice and heat pads, leg compression, leg compression boots, tens units, massage guns and so much more. Today I will talk about my favorite recovery tool which is a massage gun. I use it all the time and it has drastically helped my tired and sore legs recover faster.

Booster Pro 2 is the massage gun I personally own. There are a lot of different massage guns out there (hyperice, theragun, timtam) so feel free to look around and find one you like in your budget. This one costs under $200 on Amazon or around $225 on It comes with a case and several different heads to put on the massage gun depending on what you need for recovery. It has 9 different levels of adjustable “intensity” and the battery life on this massage gun is amazing. I can usually use it the entire week without charging it. I have owned this massage gun for over a year and the battery is still strong and the gun has been very durable. I usually throw it in my gym bag and take it with me everywhere.

Why is this my favorite recovery tool? It’s fast and efficient! If you’ve ever used a foam roller, you need to do it for about 20 minutes on each leg to really get good results. 5 minutes with this gun on each leg does just as much or more! Plus, you can find yourself in some awkward positions on the floor trying to roll out that soreness. You have to position yourself differently to target the hamstrings, quads, calves, etc. This gun can work while you sit or stand in a comfortable position and moving from one major muscle group to the next is fast and easy. I have even used this gun while I walk or while waiting for my kids at the school bus stop.

Lastly, I can change the intensity or the tip to really zone in on what I need where I need it. This gun can massage deeper than a foam roller and really get to those hard to reach or find spots. After hard workouts, using a foam roller is exhausting itself sometimes but the massage gun is as easy as holding it where you need it and applying a little bit of pressure if you want it. Oh, and if you want to use it for your arms, neck, back, and any other sore area on your body….well….it’s easy! It just more versatile than a foam roller and can get the job done faster and better!

I highly recommend this tool if you find yourself sore a lot and you train hard. You can even take it to work with you and use it for a couple of minutes here and there for therapy and to help you recover faster. Every since I have owned this tool, I barely use my foam roller or massage stick. In fact, I don’t usually have to ice my legs or use any other type of recovery therapy like a tens unit. Regular use of this recovery tool may help prevent injury by helping you to recover faster for those hard workouts. The more you recover the more you can physically put in to your next workout. If you are serious about running then its really good to get the tools to help you take care of your body.
